The Crushing Weight of Oppression and Hate

each day starts anew

i rise to greet to world

the grass and leaves

     give way to morning dew

my heart swells with hope

as the scent of tea

          wafts in swirls

as i breathe free air

the roar of thunder

         fills with fright

the tide rises

                  from the right

choking off the way to go

the cries grow louder

                         in the night

the scourge creeps

    swiftly 'cross the land

no hope is found

    when hate expands

no place to go

                for me to be

it is in me

             the devil they see
