Less Perfect Union

If you needed more proof that the Supreme Court of the United States and the death cult masquerading as the Republican Party that has stacked the courts across the nation with right wing judges don’t have the people’s best interests in mind, look no further than the past twenty-four hours where three rulings tore down affirmative action, LGBTQ+ anti-discrimination protections, and Biden’s student loan forgiveness program. All of these cases were decided on a conservative/liberal 6-3 split.

All of these decisions will have long lasting and far reaching affects, furthering the divisions already festering throughout the country. This court continues to show that it intends to cement the class structures inherent to our capitalist society by ensuring those born brown, poor, or queer are treated as second class citizens with every barrier in place to keep us in check and in debt peonage working low paying jobs where we can never hope to pay off the ever growing student debt because of how their generation broke school funding and hasn’t increased minimum wage to keep up with inflation.

I don’t see this court stopping any time soon. Ever since T***** was able to fill the court with three young far right justices, it has seemed hellbent on ignoring stare decisis and overturning widely popular and needed precedent. The deference the court and government as a whole gives to the ultra rich at the expense of the masses shows their utter disregard for the general population and our ability to stand up to them. Without meaningful disruption to the only true religion in this country, the economy, nothing will change. We need to hurt those in power in the one place they fear, their wallets.

The Democratic Party isn’t perfect, far from it. They are strike breakers too, as Biden showed us when he stopped the railroad workers strike last year. But at least they don’t bend over backward to the gun lobby, aim for the destruction of public schools, ignore climate science, back openly racist and homophobic/transphobic candidates, or support those convicted of seditious conspiracy.

So let’s take to the streets, voice our hopes and anger. And vote progressive candidates. The time for moderates is over.

Fuck being civil when they rip away our civil rights.
